Games for Weekend of 9/30/06 (including The Sixth Man's Game of the Month)

Well, here we go off of a 1-1 night last night (TCU really laid an egg). But, the birdman is still flying high winning 10 of his last 13. I look to continue that streak with some winners this weekend:

Texas A&M -1 (**)
First, take Texas A&M at home -1 against Texas Tech. Well, I hope we all have learned that there is something just not right about this Tex T team this season. They just "ain't got it" in the words of Dr. Moonlight. Their offense is still capable of racking up big numbers against poor competition (see last week); however, it tends to stall against better competition (see TCU). What we have here is a Texas A&M team that is 4-0 (albeit against weak competition) and ready for a little revenge on last years beating. Remember 2 years ago, Tech had a better team and went to A&M and lost by 7. Also to be noted, Franchione taught Patterson (TCU's coach) everything he knows and openly admits to discussing with him how TCU shut down Tech. The 12th Man will be too much for Tech in this one. A&M wins this one by at least 10.

Toledo +16 (**)
Next, go with Toledo +16 against Pittsburg. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Toledo played against two Big 12 schools (Iowa State and Kansas) and taken them both to overtime (and winning one)? Now they are getting THREE SCORES AGAINST PITT??? This is the same Pitt that, upon playing their first real competition, got hammered by Mich State. Toledo is going to put up points against damn near everyone and it's not like Pitt has USC's offense. No way Pitt can score enough to cover this number. In fact, I think this game stays within one score with Toledo perhaps pulling the big upset. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot...Pitt is coached by Wannstedt...nuff said.

Iowa +7 (***)
Last in my picks, take Iowa +7 at home against Ohio State. I hope everyone realizes how tough Iowa is at home...they are damn near unbeatable under my man Kirk as they have won 24 of their last 25 (the only loss being a 3 point loss against Michigan). And in strolls Ohio State, with their undefeated record, and hyped style of play. Well, Iowa can line up and punch Ohio State in the face and that is what they will do. The place will be rocking as it is one of the few nights games Iowa City ever has for its beloved Hawkeyes. Iowa has a Senior quarterback in Tate who will not panic agaisnt the number #1 team in the country. Ohio State, undefeated and all, has given up their share of yards and let's not forget last week's game (which was very, very close until two late picks to the house). There is just something about this team that smells upset. Oh, the last time Ohio State came to Iowa for a game...Iowa drilled them 33-7. Iowa was my pick to win the national title at the beginning of the year and I am sticking with it. I think Iowa wins this game outright, but they definintely stay within the number.

Georgia Tech +11 (**)
Just to be noted, Dr. Moonlight's favorite game of the weekend is Georgia Tech +11 at Virginia Tech. He tells me that G. Tech's defense is going to put a whopping on Va Tech's first year starting QB and make his life hell. As I stated earlier about Texas Tech, Dr. Moonlight feels that Va Tech "ain't got it" and Ga Tech will keep this one easily within the number.

Finally, on the Sixth Man's Game of the Month
Arizona State -1 (****)
Take Arizona State -1 at home agaisnt Oregon. The 6th Man will be quick to tell me that he got this at Arizona State +1, but that is not where it stands now so tough (and he obviously still loves it at -1). In his words, "Arizona state has line value here after their poor performance agaisnt Cal (although Cal is a damn tough team). Oregon is a couple fluke plays and officials mistakes from being 1-2 as opposed to 3-0. They are not a good road team and this will be an Arizona State team that is pumped for a couple reasons: 1) revenge for the loss to Oregon last year in the Pond and 2) the embarrassment last week agaisnt Cal. Arizona's current coach is 8-0 at home when he has a team coming in with at least a 2 game winning streak...they will win this game with EASE."
